Hurricane Alex dumped at least 12" of rain in 48 hrs so we had a bit of flooding. We've never seen this much standing water in our area, but did find out that the house pad & barn are on 'high ground', which is a relief. All of the water from the surrounding areas feed down to a creek right by our property and the culverts under the road aren't big enough to handle this much water.

Which is why my car is on the ONLY high spot on the back 1/2 of the road. I had to gather all groceries, put anything of value up on the back seat, and slog my way through the rain to the barn. All the while on the lookout for snakes. It did come up over my knees at one point.

This is a blurry picture of a water moccasin that we saw the next day near our place. We'd run over it with the car & it was skittering out of the way really fast!
