I have 2 sago palms on either side of my driveway. A few weeks ago, I noticed this really weird thing coming up from the middle. Nobody seemed to know what it was, so I just waited. It was a new layer of palm leaves! Here's the progression - it's been pretty cool to watch.

They will soon sprout seeds, too Gina, so if you want to plant any in your backyard, you can save the seeds. I'm told they only do this once a year. Oh, and if you cut the lower stalks, it will grow taller and higher, rather than rounder (like the ones you see at Cheesecake Factory).:)
